Melba Jean Smith, 86, Hays, formerly of Great Bend, died Friday, June 12, 2020, at Russell Regional Hospital.
She was born July 5, 1933, in Bazine to Phillip P. and Esther R. (Tittel) Foos. She grew up in Great Bend and was a graduate of Great Bend High School. She moved to Hays in 2013.
She was the Wick Program Coordinator at Barton County for 15 years and worked at the Barton County Food Bank and served on the board of the Barton County Girls Home for many years.
Survivors include her two granddaughters, Missy Heironimus and husband, Rob, Hutchinson, and Mandy Brothers and fiancé, Karl Maas, Wisconsin; a great-grandson, Austin Sutton, Hutchinson; a sister-in-law, Guilia Foos, Perry; three nephews, Randy Foos and wife, Lori, Eureka, Rick Foos, Perry and Brad Foos, Topeka; and three nieces, Lori Hertel and husband, Stan, Hays, Pam Erickson and husband, Ken, Russell and Brenda Mock and husband, J.C., Emporia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Monica Lea Brothers; a son, Tracey Smith; a sister, Freda Broetzmann; and a brother, Eugene “Bud” Foos.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at The First Presbyterian Church, Great Bend; burial in Great Bend Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the church.
