Gladys Faye (Bale) Wellbrock, 80, Hays, died Wednesday, March 25, 2020, at her son's home in Colorado Springs, Colo.
She was born Sept. 19, 1939, in Sublette to Charley and Elizabeth Bale. After high school she earned a teaching degree from Fort Hays State University.
She married Kenneth Wellbrock in the early 70’s in Hays. He preceded her in death June 3 2004. She taught grade school for many years. She had a passion for teaching, reading skills to students struggling with dyslexia and was a speaker and published author of four psychological thriller mystery novels. She enjoyed to bake, knew how to throw a party and was a member of about every bridge group Hays ever had. She was the matriarch of and enjoyed her family and friends and would practically do anything for anyone at any time. A true selfless, beautiful soul.
Survivors include a son, Brian Wellbrock and wife, Silesia, Colorado Springs; a grandson, Matthew Wellbrock, who is enlisted in the U.S. Army 11C Infantryman in Fort Drum, N.Y., and wife, Rilie ; two great-granddaughters, Vivianne (4) and Charlotte (1); a granddaughter, Shelby Wellbrock, Colorado Springs and a great-grandson, Liam who is due in September. Shelby has followed her grandma’s footsteps as a teacher in English to Chinese students and an accomplished jewelry maker; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Wellbrock, Hays.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Jo Ellen Androes, Helen West, Patricia Bale Cox, and Barbara Renick.
She was a true patriot and supported our troops.
A celebration of life will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph cemetery.
