Clarence F. Legleiter, 69, Hays, died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2020, at Rooks County Health Center, Plainville.


He was born Aug. 21, 1951, in Hays to Francis and Mary Ann (Dinkel) Legleiter. He was a 1969 graduate of St. Joseph Military Academy and earned an associate’s degree from Barton County Community College, becoming a medical lab technician.


He married Carol M. Gabel on July 22, 1972, in Hays. He worked in construction, was a farmer, and a chemistry supervisor at Quest Diagnostics.


His memberships included St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Joseph Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council No. 1325.


He enjoyed farming, carpentry, remodeling, vegetable gardening and especially growing tomatoes.


Survivors include his wife, of the home in Hays; his mother, Mary Ann Legleiter, Liebenthal, three sons, Frank Legleiter and wife, Donna, Salina, Leon Legleiter and wife, Carrie and Matthew Legleiter and fiancé, Karlee Brunner, all of Hays; two brothers, Robert Legleiter and wife, Sue, Hays and Duane Legleiter and wife, Monica, La Crosse; five sisters, Janett Copeland and husband, Frank, Greeley, Colo., Shirley Haselhorst and husband, Art, Antonino, Lilly Binder and husband, Ernie and Evelyn Younker and husband, Darold, all of Munjor, and Luella Amrein and husband, Craig, Lawrence; two grandchildren, Kelton and Addilyn; and numerous nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his father, Francis Legleiter; and a brother, Glenn Legleiter.


Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Liebenthal.


Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday, both at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine, Hays, KS 67601. A Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 5:30 p.m. Friday, a vigil at 6 p.m., followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary, all at the funeral home.


Memorials are suggested to Rooks County Health Center, Thomas More Prep-Marian High School, or Holy Family Elementary School, in care of the funeral home.
