Norman Sander Sr., 84, formerly of Victoria, died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2020, at Brookdale Assisted Living, Hays.


He was born July 7, 1936, in Victoria, to Anthony J. "Tony" and Anna (Goetz) Sander. He enjoyed the farm west of Victoria where he grew up and he attended Victoria High School.


He married Paulette (Dreiling) on Nov. 12, 1955, in Victoria. She preceded him in death Aug. 29, 2020. He had a successful oil business, R & S Oil field Service that he and a partner ran for several years. He decided to sell out of the oil field and try trucking for several years. He lived in Hays and Gorham until they built the home at Victoria in 1965. In 2010, they sold their home and traveled in their motorhome until moving to Knoxville, Tenn. in 2014. They moved back to Kansas in 2018 and settled in Hays.


He enjoyed to fish and hunt and was one of those guys that could do anything. They both passed within weeks of each other.


Survivors include a son, Norman Sander Jr., and wife, Sherry, Nashville, Tenn.; a daughter, Deborah Lickteig and husband, Dan, Greeley; three grandchildren, Trent Karlin, Clayton Murray, Aaron Sander; a great-grandchild, Addison Karlin; two brothers, Vernon Sander and wife, Celeste, Victoria and Robert Sander and wife, Linda, Garden City; and three sisters, Jane Legleiter and husband, Miles and Carolyn Billinger and husband, Alan, all of Hays and Charlene Rohr and husband, Ed, Ellsworth.


He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Vera Rome; and an infant brother, Alvin Sander.


Services for both of them will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at The Basilica of St. Fidelis, Victoria; inurnment in St. Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria.


Family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at The Basilica.


Memorials are suggested to The Basilica of St. Fidelis in care of Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 E. 22nd, Hays KS 67601.
