Jackie Garrelts, 100, passed away on June 18, 2021 at the Trego-Lempke Memorial Hospital in WaKeeney, Kansas. She was born on February 1, 1921 in Holyoke, Colorado the daughter of Colonel Frank and Mayme (Stanley) Ramsey.
At the age of 16, on July 18, 1937, she married Johnnie Garrelts. They were married for 55 years before Johnnie died on May 27, 1992. Jackie attended Brownell High school and had a PhD in Love and Kindness. Jackie started her married life and raised her family on the farm West of Brownell and remained there until a couple of weeks before her death. She was a homemaker most of her life, and also worked in the telephone offices in both Brownell and Ransom.
Jackie is survived by her son, Gayle Garrelts and his friend Phyllis Riedel of Hays; grandson, Cade Garrelts and his children, Carter and Delaney. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie; her parents; daughter-in-law, Ann Garrelts; and six sisters, Thais Stull, Thelma Debaac, Betty Grimes, Mady Stetler, Frankie Huiett, and Mickey Ramsey.
A private family inurnment will be held at a later date in the Ransom Cemetery.
