Leland Wayne Rein, 81, died Friday, Aug. 28, 2020, from COVID-19 at Hays Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 19, 1939, south of Bazine to Fred Rein, Jr and Clara (Stieben) Rein. He attended a rural grade school south of Bazine and was a 1957 graduate of Bazine High School.
He married Sherron Hanan on May 29, 1960, at United Methodist Church. They lived on the farm and raised two children. His passion was farming. He enjoyed his cows, working in the field and bringing in the wheat and milo harvest. He was a very hard working man who could be stubborn, ornery and cantankerous. Even though it was hard to get up in the tractor and combine these last few years he found a way much to the chagrin of those around him.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Steven Rein and wife, Cheryl, Bazine; a daughter, Laura L. Lowery and husband, Jack, Fort Collins, Colo.; two sisters, Glendoris Blattner and Genelda Gumescheimer and husband, Clarence; seven grandchildren, Kacie (Chad) Patterson, Thornton, Colo., Lexy (Skylar) Pegg, Loveland, Colo., Mitchell Lowery, Honolulu, Chase (Hope) Rein, Colwich, Colton (Jodi) Rein, Greensboro, N.C., Jennifer (Matt) Leiker and Brian (Natalie) Ellis, all of Hays; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Cletus and Valis; a brother-in-law, Ted; and a sister-in-law, Joann.
A private family graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 1, 2020, in Bazine Cemetery. A memorial service will be delayed until there is a time to meet safely.
