Betty J. Martell, 85, Hays, died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2020, at Memorial Hospital in Abilene.
She was born June 7, 1935, in La Crosse to Stephan and Anna (Kreutzer) Herrman.
She married Kendall E. Martell on Jan. 12, 1954, in La Crosse, and they were married 41 years before he preceded her in death March 8, 1995. She was a certified nursing assistant at Hadley Hospital.
She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and a volunteer with the Senior Companion program for many years.
She enjoyed to read and made cross-stitch quilts for each of her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include a son, Brad Martell and wife, Lillian, Bettendorf, Iowa; a daughter, Debbie Bielefeld and husband, Gene, Abilene; a brother, Stephen Herrman and wife, Caroleen, Hayward, Calif.; a sister, Frances Holopirek, Timken; a brother-in-law, Lawrence Munsch, Cheyenne Wells, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Eunice Dinkel, Garden City; five grandchildren, Ryan Bielefeld, Overland Park, Kelly Bielefeld and wife, Angie, Clearwater, Darcy Doege and husband, Kent, Indian Trail, N.C., and Nate Martell and Bria Martell, both of Bettendorf; and 11 great-grandchildren, Maggie, Corrigan, Gus, Max, Felicity, Charlotte, PJ., and Theo Bielefeld and Hadley, Henry, and Coen Doege.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son; Eldon Martell; and 10 brothers and sisters.
Private graveside services will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
