Joyce Earllene Whipple, 78, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2020, at the Hays Medical Center.
She was born March 9, 1942, in Springcreek TWP Coffey County, to Earl and Idell (O'Dell) Harvey. She was a 1960 graduate of Le Roy Rural High School and Emporia State University in 1964.
She married Ray Whipple on June 18, 1967, in Le Roy. She taught elementary school in Kansas City for three years and Dighton Grade School, and Ransom Grade School for 21 years.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Le Roy followed by the United Methodist Church, Ransom and United Methodist Church, Ness City. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Steven Whipple, Courtland, Va., and Shane Whipple and wife, Becky, Woodland Park, Colo.; Alainya Kemper, Virginia Beach, Va.; a brother, Gail Harvey, Le Roy; five grandchildren, Cassandra Martinez, Allison Mills, Aaron, Daniel, and Seth Whipple; and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Charles Eugene Harvey; and a grandson, Tyler Mills.
A private family service will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Beeler Cemetery.
Viewing will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City.
Memorials are suggested to United Methodist Church Education Fund, in care of the funeral home.
