Norma “JoAnne” Elder, 90, Bison, died Monday, Sept. 28, 2020, at Locust Grove Village, La Crosse.
She was born March 9, 1930, in La Crosse to Clyde Christopher and Elva Mae (Smith) Hall. She was a lifelong resident of Bison and a 1947 graduate of Bison Rural High School.
She married Leonard D. Elder on Jan. 16, 1949, in Bison. He preceded her in death October 13, 2007. She was a homemaker and cosmetologist working for 20 years from her shop in her home. She helped her husband with the farm work even though she didn’t like it. She also was a seamstress. She owned and operated Elder’s Drapery in Bison for 12 years prior to her retirement in 1995.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and Joy Club, all of Bison. She was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Hays Chapter No. 228, Hays and a charter member of the Sunshine Unit Extension Club.
She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren and great -grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy M. Holopirek, and husband, Rick, Bison, and Lori A. Collins, and husband, Charles, Omaha, Neb.; nine grandchildren; and 15 great -grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Dennis Elder; an infant daughter, Karen Marie Elder; and two sisters, Bonnie Schraeder, and LoRee Cooley.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church, Bison; inurnment in Lone Star Cemetery, Bison.
