Betty Charlene Hestermann, 91, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 2020, at Good Samaritan Society, Atwood.
She was born Aug. 31, 1929, north of Ludell to Henry and Sophie (Holthus) Wicke. She was a graduate of Atwood High School
She married Loris “Bud” Hestermann on Nov. 12, 1955, at Trinity Lutheran Church and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in November. She began her banking career which spanned almost 40 years. She worked in the bank at Ludell for three years before moving to Denver and working in a bank there for four years. After moving back to Ludell in 1954, she worked at Farmers State Bank until she retired in 1988.
She was a member of Trinity, Immanuel and Redeemer Lutheran churches in Ludell and Atwood.
She enjoyed singing and participated in the choir for over 60 years. She cherished family, friends, she participated in a Tuesday night bowling league in Atwood for many years. She enjoyed women’s fast pitch softball in Ludell and catching for the team.
Survivors include her husband, Atwood; three sons, Thomas and wife, Francine, Hays Richard and James and wife, Roxane, all of Valley Center; a daughter-in-law, Deb Hestermann, Topeka; eight grandchildren, Jeremy Coulter, Hays, Joshua Coulter(Rose), Cypress, Texas, Metka Kolm (Allen), Norfolk Neb., Kasandra Hoover (Cody), Burlington, Colo., Tysa Ostrander (Kelby), Henderson, Neb., Zane Hestermann, Hays, Jayme Hestermann (Alisha), Bakersfield, Calif., and Zachary Hestermann (Nichole), Maize; and her great-grandchildren, Sophia Mickelson-Coulter, Riley and Tobias Coulter, Kyler and Mariah Kolm, Evan and Grace Hoover, Kaleb and Damon Ostrander, Hayden and Jax Hestermann and Avery and Ryder Hestermann.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, John, in 1996; an infant brother, Victor; four brothers, Clarence, Floyd, Edwin, and John; and two sisters, Lelia Focke and Henrietta “Toots” Frick.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church, Atwood; burial in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. The service will be live streamed on the church’s Facebook page.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Baalmann Mortuary, Atwood. Memorials are suggested to Lutheran Hour Ministries or Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch in care of Baalmann Mortuary, Colby.
