Francis “Frankie” Braun, 85, rural Hays, died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2020, at Via Christi Village.
He was born March 1, 1935, west of Victoria to Frank J. and Helen M. (Brungardt) Braun. He was a 1953 graduate of graduate of Hays High School.
He married Jacquelyn “Jacky” Zimmerman on May 19, 1962, in Schoenchen, and they celebrated 58 years of marriage. He was a farmer and stockman, and enjoyed his work. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, the Schoenchen St. Anthony Knights of Columbus Council No. 4166, Kansas Livestock Association, and American Simmental Association.
He enjoyed playing baseball, bowling, and the Kansas City Royals. He enjoyed raising his cattle, farming and horses. His faith and his family were important to him, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, of the home in rural Hays; a son, Shawn Braun, Victoria; a daughter, Simone Werth and husband, Mark, Hays; two sisters, LaVerna Younger and Helen Werth, both of Hays; four grandchildren, Cameron Werth and wife, Jennifer, Topeka, Leighton Werth and wife, Jodie, Hays, Nathan Braun and fiancé Kilie Unrein, Victoria, and Breanna Braun, Phoenix; five great-grandchildren, Aiden, Liam, Jack, Carter, and Wyatt Werth; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers: Marvin and Robert “Bobby” Braun.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays; private family burial in St. Anthony Cemetery with military honors by Hays Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9076 Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Family is requesting that attendees wear masks and practice social distancing for the public services.
Memorials are suggested to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, St. John’s Chapel at Via Christi Village, or St. Anthony Cemetery Fund.
