DeAun Michelle "Buffy" Pfeifer

The youngest of 8, our sister, our “Buffy,” DeAun Michelle Pfeifer, 48, passed away April 2, 2020 at Cheyenne County Hospital in St. Francis Kansas from complications of a long illness.

DeAun was preceded in death by our mother, Lita Jeannine (Scoby) Pfeifer and our father, Callistus Michael Pfeifer. She is survived by her beautiful children, Madison Stanley (23), Kaiden Skinner (18), Myles Pfeifer (11) and her siblings, Linda, Rhonda, Diana, Sharon, Lance, Lori and Lisa along with their spouses and children.

DeAun was born in Hays, KS in 1971 then moved to Olympia, WA in 1989 where she attended her senior year of high school. After graduation, she spread her wings and traveled the states.

DeAun was a free spirit with a heart of gold who would give the shirt off her back to anyone who needed it. Her struggle with addiction was a fight that ultimately took her life, but the love and vibrantly strong spirit she left behind in all who knew and loved her is alive and will live on.

DeAun’s passion to help others was beautiful. It was her calling and gift. Those on the receiving end of that gift have shared so many wonderful, heartfelt stories. We are blessed that she was able to touch so many lives so beautifully.

There was no greater love in DeAun’s life than the love she had for her children. That love was all consuming. While it’s true her life didn’t play out as she would have dreamed, it did provide her with the greatest gift of life. Those gifts are making her proud and filling our lives with an extension of her; for that, we are forever thankful.

DeAun’s life ended in St. Frances KS, where our mother’s life began 87 years prior… this is not a coincidence… it is full circle… as it should be.

We love you. We miss you. We will love your children as our own!

We will be having a mass and celebration of life for both DeAun and Mom, next summer in Hays, when travel and gatherings are safe and allowed.
