Virgil Nickolas Wasinger, 88, Hays, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2020, at Hays Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 19, 1931, north of Hays to Nick J. and Mary (Wittman) Wasinger. On February 11, 1988
He married Marilyn S. (Fury) on Feb. 11, 1988, in Hays. She preceded him in death Jan. 15, 2019. He was an electrician and motor rewind specialist owning his own business, Wasinger Electric Machinery. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in Korean War as a RM2- Radio Operator.
He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Hays Veterans of Foreign Wars, Hays Bowling League, and the Rohr Jacobs Lake Association.
Survivors include a stepson, Jerry Schrock, Emporia; five stepdaughters, Cyd McElhaney, Anadarko, Okla., Lynne Van Dyke, Zurich, Barbara Goetz, La Crosse, Eldena Monroe, Berryton, and Glenda Pearson, Ord, Neb.; a brother, Eddie Wasinger, Buffalo Grove, Ill.; a sister, Bernita Degenhardt, Great Bend; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gayle (Stice) Wasinger; two brothers, Marion Wasinger and Alvin Wasinger; and four sisters, Leona Sander, Georgina Sander, Marcella Berens and Lorraine Wolf.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Brock’s-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS. 67601; inurnment in Kansas State Veterans’ Cemetery, WaKeeney with military honors by Hays VFW Honor Guard. Services will be live streamed via the Keithley Funeral Homes Facebook page.
