Edmund Befort, 100, Hays, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2020, at Good Samaritan Society, Hays.
He was born Feb. 15, 1920, in Ellis County to George and Elizabeth (Leiker) Befort.
He married Albina Pfeifer on July 2, 1945. She preceded him in death April 21, 2018.
He was a dedicated lifelong farmer and stockman and dairy farmer for many years. He was a US Army veteran serving in World War II in Europe and Philippines.
Survivors include three sons, Albert Befort Shawnee, Okla., Thomas Befort and wife, Connie, Wichita, and Peter Befort and wife, Amy, Hays; two daughters, Marilyn Billinger and husband, Robert, Victoria and Mary Hanway, Claremont, Calif.; nine grandchildren, Kenny, Andrea, Max, Marissa, Michael, Amanda, Darren, Kurt and Larissa; and 14 great-grandchildren, Julian, Brooklyn, Mackenzie, Jaden, Alexus, Brianna, Olivia, Claire, Austin, Luke, Raegan, Karley, Parker and Halle.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, John James Befort and Joseph Befort; a grandson, Logan Befort; a daughter-in-law, Peggy Befort; a son-in-law, Derek Hanway; two brothers, August, Isidore and John Befort and five sisters, Victoria Herklotz, Adeline Engel, Domitilla “Tillie” Pfannenstiel, Clarita Koerner and Angela Brungardt.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Brock's-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601; burial in Mount Allen Cemetery with military honors courtesy of Hays Veteran Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. Monday until time of service, both at the funeral chapel.
Memorials are suggested to Hays VFW Honor Guard in care of the funeral home.
