William Michael “Mike” Galloway, 75, died Sunday, Nov.15, 2020, at Trego County-Lemke Memorial Hospital Long Term Care, WaKeeney.
He was born on Nov. 19, 1944, in Hays to Robert and Beth (Clark) Galloway. He was a 1963 graduate of Trego Community High School, attended Texas A&M University. and was a 1967 graduate of Emporia State University.
He married Becky Jean Mason on April 10, 1971. He later married Sherry (Shearer) Mermis on Jan. 3, 1981, in WaKeeney. His working career began at IBM in New York, New York. He later was employed by Monfort Feed Yards in Greeley, Colo., and later returned to WaKeeney to work for his dad at WaKeeney Sale Barn. Later he worked for Livestock Insurance Services and Livestock Marketing Association. He completed his career working for The Hartford in its Livestock Division.
He was a member of Presbyterian Church of WaKeeney, serving several times as a deacon and elder. He was a member of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and Colorado Livestock Association. He was a longtime member of the Kansas Livestock Association, serving in several roles. He was a member of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and Colorado Livestock Association.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; three children and two stepchildren, John Galloway (Katie), Weston, Mo., Lewis Galloway (Jamie), Prairie Village, Philip Galloway (Rachel), La Grange, Ill., Angela Mermis, Plainville, and Joel Mermis (Carrie), Leawood; three siblings, Jack Galloway (Anna), Port Angeles, Wash., Janie Anderson, Columbia, Mo., and Julie Newcomer (Randy), Louisburg; 11 grandchildren, Vivi, Mimi, and Stella Galloway, Will, Harper, and Annie Galloway, Mollie and Josie Galloway, Mikiah Mermis and Mason and Ethan Mermis.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A private family service will be held.
