Lavern George Bieker

Lavern George Bieker, 75, McCook, Neb., died Sunday, Nov. 15, 2020, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Neb.

He was born Oct. 29, 1945, near Grainfield to Martin and Josephine (Jegan) Bieker. He was a 1963 graduate of Hoxie High School.

He married Kathleen (Holzmeister) Bieker on Nov. 30, 1968, in Angelus. The family made their home in the Hoxie area until 1982 when they moved to Hayes Center, Neb. He worked in grain management for several years before starting his own business, Bieker Welding, in Hayes Center. He later moved the business to McCook. He was a U.S. Army veteran and earned a Purple Heart during his tour in Vietnam.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus, a lifetime member of the 11th Armored Calvary’s Veterans of Vietnam and Cambodia, member of St. Patrick’s Church. He served on the Hayes Center School Board and was a commander for the American Legion. He was Veteran’s Service Officer for many years in Hayes County.

He spent several hours tinkering in his shop and enjoyed welding and fabrication.

Survivors include his wife of almost 52 years, McCook; three sons, Lester (Traci) Bieker, Leelan (Maria) Bieker and Jason Bieker and friend Emily Perry, all of McCook; a daughter, Collete Guynan, North Platte, Neb.; a brother, Lawrence Bieker, Hoxie; a sister, Loretta Mask, Russell; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family member and lifelong friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother in law, Lawrence (Frances) Holzmeister; and a brother-in law, William Mask.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church; private family burial with military honors in Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Neb.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday with family present to greet friends at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, McCook.

A rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
