Joseph Francis Weber, 95, Ellis, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2018.
He was born January 19, 1925, to Joseph L. Weber and Catherine T. (Jacques) Weber. He attended St. Mary Grade School and was a 1945 graduate of Ellis High School.
He married Mary Alice Befort on Aug. 24, 1948, in Ellis. They were married 67 years until she preceded him in death in 2015. He was farming for five years before embarking on a career in the oil industry, he started as a roughneck and retired 1986 from Abercrombie Drilling as a Drilling Supervisor. He was a co-owner of W & L Dirt Construction.
In his younger years, he enjoyed to fish, hunt coyotes, and golf. After retiring, he was a passionate pinochle player, enjoyed coffee breaks with friends at Arthur’s and driving to see his farmland.
Survivors include three sons, Tom and wife, Libby, Ellis, Patrick and wife, Cindy, Shawnee and Dean and wife Patricia, Crowley, Colo.; a sister, Rose Marie Blasing, Herington; two grandchildren, Scott and wife, Shelly, Mulvane, and Krista Weber-Schneider and husband, Jeremy, WaKeeney; seven great-granddaughters, Shea Harper, Fort Myers, Fla., Brooke Weber, Wichita, Allison Schneider, WaKeeney, Emma, Macy, and Haley Chambers, Mulvane, and Olivia “Little Libby”, Crowley, Colo.; and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Brandon Weber (infant son of Patrick); two brothers Alfred “Fritz” and Francis “Bud”; and three sisters, Helen Kohl, Theresa Weber, and Catherine Flagler.
Private family services due to Covid concerns.
Memorials are suggested to St. Mary Church.
