Robert Allen “Bob” Sperling, 72, Garden City, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020, at Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, Mo.
He was born Dec. 26, 1947, in Newton to Homer and Fern (Schmidt) Sperling. He grew up in Newton where he graduated from Berean Academy, Elbing and attended Colby Community College.
He married Marie Farmer in 1970. He spent most of his career as an office supply salesman.
In Garden City, where they have lived the past 23 years, he was involved in his community through serving as a Chamber of Commerce member, being involved in Cornerstone Church, and as a Gideon with Gideons International. His service to his community and his neighbors earned him the 2011 Chamber of Commerce Award of Merit, Ambassador of the Year and Champion of the Chamber and it’s programs. He was also involved in Business and Visitation Committee, Garden City Cultural Relations Board, Lions Club, Toastmasters Inc, Leadership Garden City and The Every Voice Program.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Jason and wife, Kim; a daughter, Tina Eberhard and husband, Eric; a sister, Carol Gilmore and husband, Gary; eight grandchildren, Heather, Josh, Karenna, Micaiah, Sarah, Isaiah, Deacon and Josiah; a niece Chandra Doane (Brett); a nephew Matt Farmer (Kellie); and numerous other extended family members.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City. The graveside service may also be viewed on Facebook Live on the Garnand Funeral Home Facebook page. Face coverings will be required and social distancing encouraged.
A public viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City.
Memorials are suggested to Gideons International in care of the funeral home. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date in 2021.
