LeRoy P. Werth, 79, Hays, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2020, at Hays Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 29, 1940, in rural Ellis County to Wendelin William and Brigitta (Dinges) Werth. He was a 1958 graduate of Schoenchen High School.
He married Christina Franz on May 25, 1962, in Germany. He was a lifelong farmer in Ellis County. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Schoenchen. He served on the church committee, choir, and a eucharistic minister. He was a 3rd degree Schoenchen Council Knights of Columbus member.
He enjoyed fishing and taking walks with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, LeRoy Werth and wife, Joan, Hays and Eric Werth, Schoenchen; two daughters, Sonya Peters, Lincoln, Neb., and Michaela Werth, Phoenix; two brothers, Linus Werth, Victoria and Paul Werth, Great Bend; three sisters, Laura Klaus, Hays, Clarice Stoecklein, Ness City and Dorothy Moeder, Hays; 10 grandchildren, Ericka, Ashley, Peyton, Gavin, Michael, Seth, Spencer, Sierra, Jessica and Nathaniel; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Erin Elizabeth Werth; two brothers, Ralph and Donald Werth; and three sisters, Joyce Klaus, LaVera Schuckman and Mary Catherine Barnes.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Schoenchen; inurnment in St. Anthony Cemetery with military honors courtesy of Hays Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Thursday, both at the church.
A vigil and Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Brock’s-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to St. Anthony Church or St. Anthony Cemetery.
