Michael McQuade

Michael McQuade, 74,  Ellinwood, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021, at the Comfort Care Home, Newton.

He was born July 15, 1946,  in Pittsburg to Peter John and Mary Eileen (Lavery) McQuade.

He was a 1964 graduate of Ellinwood High School and a 1969 graduate of Pittsburg State University with a bachelor’s degree in history.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran. After leaving the Navy in 1975, he worked for Commonwealth Edison in the Chicago area in a nuclear power plant. After retiring in 1998 as Vice President of Human Resources from Commonwealth Edison he returned to be a caregiver for his parents in Ellinwood, where he worked for a few years as a substitute teacher.

He served as board president for USD 355 Ellinwood, which took him to National School Board conventions in several cities. He served on the Ellinwood Community Library Foundation. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ellinwood, and a member of the former Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5659.

Survivors include four brothers, Tim McQuade and wife, Cindy.  Hoisington, Owen McQuade  and wife, Edith,  Russell. Dennis (Sue Beckham), St. Charles Mo., and Mark (Ruthann), Madill Okla,; a twin sister, Patricia  Englehardt  and husband, Loy, Winslow Ariz.; three sisters, Kathleen Mass , Omaha Neb., Elaine Kallaus, Newton, Maureen Schwartz,  Kansas City, Kan.;21 nieces and nephews; 24 great-nieces and nephews; a great-great-niece; and a host of  relatives and good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Anne McQuade; a brother, Kevin McQuade; a sister-in-law, Cathy McQuade; his grandparents, Peter Harrison and Mary Rose (Grannan) McQuade and Joseph Charles and Anne Virginia (Kelly) Lavery; a nephew; two great-nephews; and a great-great-nephew.

A Mass of Celebration will be held at a later date.  An inurnment will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Lakin Comanche Cemetery, Ellinwood.

Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph School Endowment Fund, Ellinwood Public School Library Foundation, or Comfort Care hospice in care of Minnis Chapel, Ellinwood.
