David Wanker, 77, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021, of Covid-19 at Fort Dodge Soldier's Home in Dodge City,
He was born March 7, 1944, in WaKeeney to Gernald Mertis and Pauline Gladys (Close) Wanker. He graduated from Trego Community High School and attended Fort Hays State University.
He married Claudia Kay Naasz on Aug. 28, 1966. He worked at Earle's Liquor Store until his health failed. He was a U.S Army veteran in Vietnam.
Survivors include three daughters, Angela Earle, Anchorage, Alaska, Heather Barney, WaKeeney, and Kimberly Lotz, Merced, Calif,; a brother, Patrick, WaKeeney; a sister, Carely Yaeger, Branson West, Mo.; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant grandson.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Jan. 19, 2021, at Schmitt Funeral Home; burial in Kansas Veterans' Cemetery, WaKeeney with military honors.
Memorials are suggested to Fort Dodge Soldiers' Activity Fund or Humane Societies in care of the funeral home.
