Mary Louise Moyers, 98, Hays, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 2021, at Main Street Manor, Russell.
She was born Aug. 5, 1922, in Pennsboro, W.V., to John A. and Macy M. Farley. She attended and graduated from the Pennsboro public schools. She graduated from the DeSalle School of Nursing of St. Mary Hospital in Clarksburg, W.V.
After graduation, she was a surgical nurse, emergency nurse, and later as night supervisor. She married Edwin Moyers on Aug. 25, 1948, in Clarksburg and they celebrated nearly 53 years of marriage before he preceded her in death Aug. 20, 2001. They started their life together in Fayette, Mo., where she worked as a nurse in the area hospital. After moving to Kingsville, Texas, she was a nurse at the Kleberg Hospital in Kingsville, and later as a school nurse and county school nurse on the King Ranch. When they moved to Hays in 1959, she worked at Hadley Hospital, serving the last 20 years prior to retirement as head of the psychological floor.
She was a member of Hays First United Methodist Church, the Century Club, Hays Lioness Club, and the Hadley Nurse’s Club.
She enjoyed her work as a nurse, listening to her husband play music as a professor of music and symphony member at Fort Hays State University, attending Tiger football and basketball games, overseas travel, her grandchildren, and her pet poodles.
Survivors include her two sons, Michael Moyers, Shanghai, China and Randal Moyers and wife, Lorrie, Great Bend; and five grandchildren, Justin, Alexander, Nicholas, Macy, and Abbie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Bernice.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine, Hays, KS 67601; burial in Mount Allen Cemetery.
Family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
