Paul Deines, 98, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2021 at Trego County-Lemke Memorial Hospital, WaKeeney.
He was born Feb. 12, 1923, in rural Barton County near Galatia to David and Elizabeth (Dietz) Deines. He attended school in Galatia until his family moved to Trego County in 1939. He was a 1940 graduate of Trego Community High School and attended Barton County Community College where he took business classes for one year.
He married Helen Fabrizius on Jan. 21, 1945, at Zion Lutheran Church, Trego Center. She preceded him in death. He spent his working years farming and ranching.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he was the financial secretary and served on the church council for many years. He was a member of the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia International, and Sunflower Chapter of Hays.
Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth and husband Richard Deines, Trego County; two grandchildren, Emily Deines Overland Park and Brent Deines, WaKeeney; two great-grandchildren, Emma Deines and Aaliyah Deines; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mark David Deines; and seven siblings, Marie Wilhelm, Tabea Fabrizius, Louis Deines, Herbert Deines, Racheal Fabrizius, Ella Fabrizius, and Emil Deines.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church at Trego Center; burial in church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Zion.
Memorials are suggested to Zion Lutheran Church or Trego Hospital Endowment Foundation in care of Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, Hoxie.
