Patricia Jean Newell, 76, Salina, died Sunday, March 7, 2021, after a battle with cancer.
She was born March 2, 1945, in Hays to Lillian (Coupal) and Clarence Grabbe. She graduated from Fort Hays State University with a bachelor’s in elementary education in 1967.
She married LeRoy Newell on June 17, 1967, in Hays. She taught 2nd grade for one year at Bazine and then stayed home to raise her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of Americas, Shepherds of Christ Ministries and an Extraordinary Minister for St. Mary Church.
She enjoyed sewing, baking, making rosaries and playing the piano and organ.
Survivors include her husband; five sons, Patrick Newell and wife, Cindy, Tim Newell, Kevin Newell and wife, Kara, Sean Newell and wife, Holly and Mark Newell and wife, Jessica; four daughters, Stephanie Heier and husband, Roger, Jodie Newell, Mary Ewing and husband, John and Sarah Labes and husband, William; two brothers, Wayne Grabbe and wife, Judy and Dick Grabbe and wife, Cheryl; three sisters, Frances Gordon and husband, Jim, Donna Farrell and husband, Bob and Lorri Leibbrandt and husband, Doug; 25 grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Sam Warfel; and a sister-in-law, Kathy Grabbe.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, Marian Warfel and David Grabbe.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Queen of the Universe, Salina
Viewing will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ryan Mortuary, Salina.
A rosary/vigil will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to Shepherds of Christ Ministries or St. Mary Elementary School, in care of the mortuary.
