Gerald Wayne Doerfler, 81, Codell, died Wednesday, March 10, 2021, at Rooks County Health Center.
He was born June 19, 1939, in Hays to Alex and Crescentia (Schumacher) Doerfler. He was a 1958 graduate of Hays High School and graduated from Fort Hays State University with a master of fine arts degree.
He married Judy Lee Hachmeister on Aug. 11, 1965, in Las Vegas and they celebrated 55 years of marriage. He taught art at Plainville High School for 39 years. One year of his teaching career was spent with his family on the Isle of Tiree off the coast of Scotland.
He was a member of Codell Community Church.
He enjoyed fixing and building things, gardening, and doing work with his hands. He enjoyed ice cream, traveling, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Codell; a son, Drew Doerfler, Codell; a daughter, Dayna Crawford and husband, Kevin, Codell; two sisters, JoAnne Reynolds, Hays, and Judy Unrein and husband, Pat, Arizona; a sister-in-law, MaryAnn Doerfler, Hays; and three grandchildren, Courtney, Blake, and Cody.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Bobby, Eugene, Donald, Alex, and James; and four sisters: Rita, Ruth, Norma, and Sharon.
A private family burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery, Codell.
