JoAnn (Lang) Brown, 92, Hays, died Thursday, March 11, 2021, at Via Christi Village Care Center, Hays.
She was born July 8, 1923, in Ness City to John J. and Margaret (Schoenberger) Lang. She grew up in Hays and was a graduate of Hays High School.
She married Lawrence F. “Red” Brown on Aug. 27, 1953, in Hays. He preceded her in death Sept. 14, 2014. She and her sister operated the Klothes Kloset Dress Shop in Hays for years, and she was a waitress at Professor Pitterwurst’s Inn for 16 years.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
She enjoyed boating and water skiing in her younger years, gardening, yard work and being the best grandma.
Survivors include two sons, Lawrence J. “Larry” Brown and Patrick J. Brown and wife, Kim, all of Hays; a brother, Francis Lang and wife, Micky, Arizona; a sister, Lorine “Beans” Uttecht, Yuba City, Calif.; six grandchildren, Kristy Brown, Bridget Hargraves and husband, Keith, Rachel Tyler and husband, Travis, Lawrence P. Brown, Nicki Gonder and husband, Mitch, and Austin J. Brown; four great-grandchildren, Elijah Tyler, Josephine Hargraves, Sloan Gonder and Noah Tyler.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Raymond, John T., and Julius Lang; five sisters, Pauline Doerfler, Anna Dreiling, Marcella Jakeucnicz, Rita Weigel and Mary Alice Cook; an infant brother, Eugene Lang; and an infant sister, Katie Lang.
A funeral Mass will be held at a later date at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays; inurnment in St. Joseph Cemetery.
