KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Carly Heim led three Tigers in double figures Saturday as the Fort Hays State University women’s basketball team moved to 9-2 with a win against Rockhurst University at Mason-Halpin Fieldhouse.
Heim shot 6-of-8 from the floor, was 8-for-10 on free throws as FHSU picked up the 67-50 victory.
Tatyana Legette added 14 points, while Kacey Kennett put up 11. Legette finished a rebound shy of the double-double, while Heim was three boards shy of the same feat.
FHSU began the game with an 11-3 run, hitting seven free throws in that span.
After hitting a 3-pointer to end the first half, FHSU started the third quarter on an 8-0 run to pull away, then later had a 13-3 run to put it out of reach.
Lindsay Shupe added seven points off the bench and Emma Stroyan finished with six as FHSU hit 40 percent from the floor, but was 24 of 31 from the foul line.
Rockhurst (6-4) was led by 20 points for Madeline Ronshausen.
The Tiger are back in action at 7 p.m. Tuesday, taking on Midland (Texas) University at Gross Memorial Coliseum. It’s the final game before the holiday break for FHSU.
