The Hays Eagles went 2-0 Saturday in the KC Legends Wood Bat tournament in Kansas City.

The Eagles won 10-2 against the Missouri Nationals, then 12-9 against the Missouri River Cats.

The wins push Hays to 8-1-1 ahead of Thursday’s doubleheader against Norton at Larks Park.

Against the Nationals, Hays blew the game wide open with seven runs in the sixth inning, turning a 3-2 ball game into a blowout.

Palmer Hutchison and Cole Murphy each finished with two hits and drove in a pair of runs each. Each also had a triple and a double.

Cody Peterson picked up the win in five innings. he gave up two runs (one earned) with six strikeouts to four walks. Braden Stauth pitched an inning with one strikeout and a walk.

Against the River Cats, Hays jumped out to a 5-3 lead with five runs in the second inning, then plated four in the fifth to lead 12-5. However, the River Cats rallied with four runs in the sixth before Stauth closed the door on the comeback.

Brett Herrman pitched 5.2 innings to grab the win for Hays. He surrendered nine runs (seven earned) on 10 hits with three strikeouts and five walks.

Dominic Bainter, Herrman, Hutchison, Carson Jacobs and Murphy each had a double. Bainter finished with three RBI, while Jacobs drove in four with a pair of hits.
