PARK CITY — The Hays High School wrestling team brought home a pair of medals Saturday from the Class 5A state championships at Hartman Arena.

Gavin Meyers, in his first state tournament, earned a fourth-place finish at 182 pounds. The freshman made it to the semifinals Friday night, picking up a pair of pins in the first two rounds. Then, he suffered a 4-3 decision to Goddard’s Cayden Atkins to end Friday night.

Meyers battled back with a pin in the consolation finals before falling 9-3 in the third-place match. He finished his season 18-6.

Senior Logan Schulte joined him as a medalist. Schulte picked up two wins Saturday after his quarterfinal loss Friday at 285 pounds. Schulte grabbed a 5-1 decision and a 2 minutes, 9 second pin in the cross-bracket round. He fell 5-2 in the consolation semifinals before forfeiting his final match and placing sixth. Schulte ended with a 26-11 mark.

The Indians’ next deepest run came from Chase Voth at 170 pounds. Voth lost his opening round match, before rebounding with back-to-back wins on the back side. Voth fell in the cross-bracket round to end his season at 26-15.

Hays High’s other three qualifiers — Kreighton Meyers at 160, Cole Schroeder at 195 and Gavin Nutting at 220 — finished the tournament with 1-2 marks.
