The Hays High girls soccer team picked up a 3-0 win over Salina Central in Tuesday’s Class 5A regional opener at FHSU soccer stadium.
Caroline Robben scored two goals and had an assist for the Indians, who improved to 11-1-5 on the season.
Kallie Leiker also scored a goal, and Kamree Leiker picked up an assist.
The Indians will advance to the regional championship match to face Valley Center on the road at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Hays High softball loses in eight innings: The Hays High softball team rallied in the seventh inning to take the lead over Great Bend in Tuesday’s Class 5A regional opener, but the Indians ultimately fell in eight innings, dropping a 7-6 decision at Twin Rivers Youth Complex in Wichita.
Madelyn Waddell hit a three-run home run in the top of the seventh to give the Indians a 6-5 lead, but Great Bend plated a run in the bottom of the inning to force extras.
The Panthers then won the game in the eighth off an Indians throwing error.
Jaysa Wichers went the distance in the circle for the Indians.
Hays High ended the season with an 8-9 mark.
Monarch softball falls to Hoisington: The Thomas More Prep-Marian softball team ended its season in Tuesday’s Class 3A regional semifinal with a 9-3 loss to Hoisington at TMP.
TMP scored the first run of the game, but the Monarchs surrendered seven runs in the top of the second inning.
Kyleigh Allen took the loss for the Monarchs in the circle.
TMP finished the season 13-9.
