EMPORIA — The Hays Eagles Senior American Legion baseball team took second in the Sam Ellis Classic, falling 3-0 to Emporia in the championship game on Sunday at Soden’s Grove Ball Park.

Emporia held Hays to two hits, singles by Dominic Bainter and Cody Petersen.

Trey Riggs pitched the first three innings, allowing one run, while Colby Dreiling tossed the last four innings.

The Eagles secured a spot in the title game with a 7-5 win over the Wichita Aviators earlier Sunday. Hays trailed 5-1 before rallying for five runs in the fifth inning.

Petersen had three hits with three RBIs against the Aviators.

The Eagles will play host to Buhler in a 5 p.m. doubleheader Wednesday at Larks Park.
