The TMP-Marian Monarchs summer baseball team advanced to the Zone A 1 & 2 tournament final with a 7-5 win over the Hays Junior Eagles on Monday at Great Bend.
The Monarchs were set to play Larned in the zone title game on Tuesday night.
The Monarchs jumped out to a 3-0 lead against the Eagles in the top of the first inning. Mark Rack scored on a passed ball and the Monarchs added two more runs off Eagles errors.
Justice Dotts scored on a wild pitch for the Eagles in the top of the first, and the Eagles took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the second thanks to a double from Dawson VonFeldt with the bases loaded.
The Monarchs then grabbed control for good with a four-run fifth inning. Nick Helget and Jacob Pfeifer delivered back-to-back RBI singles and the Monarchs tacked on two more runs off wild pitches to take a 7-4 lead.
Rack earned the win, allowing five runs on six hits with seven walks while striking out seven in 5.1 innings of work.
The Jr. Eagles, who edged Great Bend 7-6 earlier Monday, were set to play Russell in an elimination game in the late afternoon on Tuesday.
