GREAT BEND — Hays High senior Lynsie Hansen placed first in No. 1 singles in the Great Bend Invitational on Tuesday, leading the Indians to a third-place finish as a team.

Hansen went 4-0 in her matches, defeating Meade’s Ali Unruh (8-5), Great Bend’s Remi Ingram (8-4), Larned’s Audrey Manry (8-2) and Dodge City’s Jordyn Trombley (8-7, 9-8 tiebreaker).

Hays High’s No. 1 doubles team of Taylor Deines and Mylah Potter took second place. They lost to Meade (8-7, 8-6 tiebreaker) and Great Bend (8-1) before winning their final two matches against Larned (8-5) and Dodge City (8-5).

Hays High will play in the Salina Central Invitational on Saturday.


Hays High golfers Taleia McCrae and Sophia Garrison finished 1-2 at the Salina Central Invitational on Tuesday at Municipal Golf Course.

McCrae and Garrison both recorded a score of 40 with McCrae winning the title by virtue of a scorecard playoff.

Hays High was runner-up as a team with a 178, one shot behind team champion Manhattan.

Katie Dinkel shot a 47 for the Indians while Sierra Smith finished with a 51.

The Indians will play at the Liberal Invitational on Monday.
