LIBERAL — The Hays High football team won a thriller on Friday night at Liberal, pulling out a 13-12 overtime win after stopping Liberal’s two-point try in the extra session.

With the game locked at 6, the Indians scored on their possession in overtime after quarterback Dylan Dreiling found Hayden Brown in the back of the end zone for a 6-yard touchdown on fourth-and-goal. Gavin Meyers added the extra point to make it a seven-point game.

The Redskins (2-1) answered with a rushing touchdown by Alex Esparza and opted to go for two. Liberal handed it off to Esparza again, but this time the Indians stuffed the run up the middle to seal the win.

The Indians (1-2) scored their first touchdown late in the first half on a 21-yard touchdown pass from Dreiling to Brown, but the PAT failed. Liberal evened the score in the fourth quarter but also missed the PAT.

Brown finished made five receptions for 56 yards with the two touchdowns. He had 40 yards on 17 carries.

Dreiling was 10 of 19 through the air for 75 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Meyers logged a team-high nine tackles for the Indians.

Hays will host Garden City for Homecoming next Friday at Lewis Field Stadium.
