The Hays High girls golf team placed second in the Garden City Invitational on Thursday at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course.
Taleia McCrae and Sophia Garrison each finished with 88s, placing third and fourth, respectively.
Katie Dinkel and Sierra Smith each shot 97s for the Indians to take ninth and 10th, and Andrea Lopez took 13th with a 102.
Stanton County’s Ryli Cook won the individual title with a 71, three shots better than Garden City’s Alyssa McMillen, who took second.
Garden City won the team title with a 360, beating Hays High by 10 strokes.
The Indians will play in the Hutchinson Invitational next Thursday.
Hays High girls win McPherson Invitational
The Hays High girls cross country team placed six runners in the top 11 of the McPherson Invitational on Thursday to win the meet.
Amelia Jaeger led the Indians with a second-place finish, clocking a 21:40. Allison Shubert took fourth in 22:10 while Landri Dotts was sixth (22:22), Claire Shippy was seventh (22:29), Yesenia Maldonado was eighth (22:32) and Jaycine Watson was 11th (23:00).
“Great meet for our Lady Indians today,” Hays High coach Jerold Harris said. “Our five-person pack time of 52 seconds is a season best.”
Brayden Hines led the Hays High boys with a fifth-place finish in 19:04. Hays placed fourth in the team standings. Salina Central won the boys team title.
“Very pleased with our guys’ effort today,” Harris said. “Many of them ran season-best times and continue to show improvement week to week.”
The Indians will compete in the Junction City meet on Oct. 5.
TMP girls win Larned Invitational
The Thomas More Prep-Marian girls country team captured first place as a team in the Larned Abby Trapp-Prescott Invitational on Thursday.
Abby Rueschhoff had the best time for the Monarch girls, finishing in 22:51.6 to place fifth among juniors and seniors.
Grace Pope led the Monarchs in the freshman/sophomore results with a 22:29.4. Kyleigh Allen was seventh in the junior/senior results with a 23:16.6, and Sophia Allen was eighth in the freshman/sophomore category with a 23:39.3.
TMP's Braydon Binder placed 11th in the boys freshman/sophomore race with a 19:44.4.
The Monarchs will compete in the Lyons Invitational on Tuesday.
