The Thomas More Prep-Marian football team couldn’t maintain a promising start against unbeaten Hoisington, falling 42-12 in Friday’s district opener to the Cardinals.

Freshman Kade Harris put the Monarchs on the board first with a 1-yard TD with four minutes left in the first quarter, but Hoisington grabbed a 7-6 lead late in the first quarter and scored two touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 20-6 lead into halftime.

Hoisington, ranked No. 1 in Class 2A, then pulled away in the third quarter to move to 4-0 on the season while TMP dropped to 1-3.

The Monarchs had no answer for Cardinals' star Wyatt Pedigo, who rushed for 192 yards and four touchdowns on just 12 carries. Pedigo also caught a 38-yard touchdown pass from Mason Haxton.

Colby Dreiling rushed for 55 yards on 16 carries for TMP. Harris had a 15-yard touchdown pass to Jace Lang.

The Monarchs will play host to Phillipsburg on Friday night at Lewis Field Stadium.
