The Hays High girls cross country team placed third in the Salina Central Invitational on Thursday.

The Indians were led by a third-place finish by Amelia Jaeger, who finished in 20:12.

Hays High had four other top-15 finishers — Yesenia Maldonado (11th, 21:05), Jaycine Watson (13th, 21:06), Michaela Dickman (14th, 21:14) and Allison Shubert (15th, 21:14).

“Great meet for our ladies today,” HHS coach Jerold Harris said. “We finally got an awesome day to run and the times showed it. Our ladies placed third behind a talented Dodge team and a Goddard team that placed third at state last year.”

The HHS boys were led by Brayden Hines’ 26th-place finish in 17:58.

“Very pleased with our guys' team today,” Harris said. “We competed and did not settle in the middle of the race and our times showed it today.”
