Hays High freshman cross country runner Amelia Jaeger qualified for the Class 5A state meet with a seventh-place showing in Saturday’s regional at Great Bend.
Jaeger punched her ticket to state by running a 20:23.43.
The state meet is next Saturday at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence.
Yesenia Maldonado was 18th with a 21:30.21, Claire Shippy was 19th with a 21:33.12, Michaela Dickman was 21st with a 21:39.89 and Jaycine Watson was 22nd with a 21:48.34.
The HHS girls finished fourth in the team standings.
Brayden Hines led the Hays High boys team with a 30th-place finish in 18:19.51.
Monarchs’ Pope qualifies for state
TMP-Marian sophomore Grace Pope is headed to state after finishing 10th in the 3A regional with a 21:16.61 at the Prairie Dog Golf Course in Norton.
Kyleigh Allen placed 22nd for TMP with a 22:25.94, while Abby Rueschhoff was 25th with a 22:26.76. The Monarch girls finished fifth as a team.
Norton’s girls won the team regional title, led by Lexi Kats’ third-place finish (19:44.64). Norton’s boys took second with Connor Hall taking second individually with a 16:47.56.
In the 2A regional at Great Bend, Trego’s Sybil Giefer won the girls meet with a 19:04.77. Ellis’ Madelyn Russell was fourth with a 19:32.39.
Trego’s Wyndom Giefer won the boys race in 16:59.31, Plainville’s Chayse McCullough was second in 17:23.09 and Ellis’ Samuel Pyle was third in 17:23.91.
Ellis’ boys qualified for state by placing second while Trego also earned a spot by placing third.
Oakley’s girls took second to make it to state.
At the Class 1A regional in Washington-Cedar Hills Golf Course, the Osborne boys took second. Reagan Bales was second (17:20.35) and Cameron Delaney was third (17:21.99).
La Crosse's Blake Piece won the boys 1A regional at Prairie Ridge Golf Course in tribune, clocking a 18:30.03. Victoria's Joshua Schulte was third with a 19:07.90. La Crosse won the boys team title while Quinter was second. Wallace County won the girls team title.
