FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The Fort Hays State women's basketball team wrapped up its stay in Florida with a 2-0 mark after the No. 16-ranked Tigers outlasted No. 6 Saint Anselm for a 70-63 win on Thursday in Fort Lauderdale.
FHSU senior Taylor Rolfs battled foul trouble for most of the game but came up huge in the fourth quarter, scoring 10 points in the final frame. She broke a 53-all tie on a 3-pointer with 3:26 left and the Tigers kept the lead the rest of the way.
Fort Hays (9-2) was playing without senior guard Lanie Page, who suffered a knee injury during Wednesday's win against Harding. Junior forward Whitney Randall took Page's spot in the starting lineup. The extent of Page’s injury is not yet known.
Saint Anselm crept within a point after a 3-pointer with 13 seconds left, but Jaden Hobbs hit two free throws for FHSU to push the lead back to three. The Hawks then turned the ball over and FHSU iced it with free throws from Rolfs.
Jaden Hobbs led the Tigers with 19 points, while Kacey Kennett added 14 and Rolfs finished with 11. FHSU outscored the Hawks 26-17 in the fourth quarter.
Saint Anselm All-American Shannon Ryan finished with 18 points and 14 rebounds, while Peyton Steinman scored a game-high 23 points.
FHSU won’t return to action until Jan. 4 when it plays host to Missouri Southern at Gross Memorial Coliseum.
