PLAINVILLE — The Thomas More Prep-Marian boys basketball team captured the Mid-Continent League Tournament championship with a 59-46 win over Phillipsburg in Saturday’s final.

Jackson Schulte paced TMP with 15 points and Carson Jacobs added 11.

It was TMP's first MCL Tournament title since the 2016 season. Phillipsburg had captured the last two two titles with wins over TMP in the final.

The Monarchs, who improved to 10-1 on the season, led 28-22 at halftime and 48-38 after three quarters before staying in control in the fourth.

Phillipsburg (8-5) was led by Ty Sides' 19 points.

Ellis claimed a 39-31 win over Hill City to earn third place.

Hoxie took fifth with a 65-62 win over Plainville and Norton beat Trego 59-50 in the seventh-place game.

On the girls side, Trego claimed the championship with a 45-31 win over Phillipsburg in the final. Lili Shubert led the Golden Eagles with 26 points.

Hoxie took third with a 47-29 win over Smith Center. Oakley earned fifth with a 35-34 win over Ellis and Norton beat TMP 47-32 in the seventh-place game.

The Monarchs will play at Abilene on Friday.
