JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The Fort Hays State women’s basketball team ended a two-game skid with an 86-55 road win over Lincoln on Saturday.
FHSU junior forward Whitney Randall led the Tigers with 21 points. She went 9 of 10 from the field and 2 of 2 from 3-point range.
Randall was joined in double figures by Belle Barbieri (14), Jaden Hobbs (14) and Kacey Kennett (11). Barbieri also grabbed 10 rebounds to record a double-double.
The Tigers, who improved to 18-6 overall and 9-6 in the MIAA, led 29-23 at halftime before breaking away with a 27-19 third quarter.
FHSU shot 31 of 66 from the field and went 11 of 27 from 3-point range while Lincoln went 20 of 53 from the floor. FHSU forced Lincoln into 20 turnovers.
Lincoln dropped to 3-21 overall and remained winless in MIAA play at 0-5.
The Blue Tigers were led by Alecia Gulledge’s 12 points.
Tiger men fall in overtime
The Fort Hays men saw a five-game winning streak snapped with a 74-71 overtime loss to Lincoln.
The Tigers surrendered an 11-point lead in the second half. Lincoln took a two-point advantage with 28 seconds left in regulation on a bucket by Jonell Burton, but FHSU’s Aaron Nicholson hit two free throws with 16 seconds left to knot it back.
Lincoln’s Marcel Burton missed a 3 with five seconds left to keep it tied at 64 and send it to OT.
In the extra session, the Tigers trailed by a point with under a minute left. Lincoln got a defensive stop with 32 seconds left and Marcel Burton hit two free throws to push the Blue Tigers’ lead to three.
FHSU missed two shots in the final seconds as Lincoln escaped.
Jared Vitztum led the Tigers with 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
FHSU dropped to 12-12 overall and 5-10 in the MIAA.
