The Hays High boys basketball team will be the No. 3 seed in the Class 5A state boys basketball tournament in Emporia, facing Topeka-Highland Park at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday in the first round at White Auditorium.

The Indians (16-6) qualified after earning a 43-36 over Great Bend in the sub-state championship game on Saturday.

Highland Park, a member of the Centennial League, will enter with a 15-7 mark.

With a win, Hays would move to Friday night’s semifinal to face the winner against Basehor-Linwood (20-2) and Andover Central (14-8).

The other side of the bracket features first-round games against top-seeded Andover (22-0) and Blue Valley Southwest (9-13), and De Soto (16-6) vs. Wichita-Kapaun (16-6).
