Kansas senior center Udoka Azubuike has been recognized as defensive player of the year in college basketball for the 2019-20 season by the NABC, the group announced Monday.

Azubuike, who hails from Delta, Nigeria, averaged 10.5 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game (as well as 13.7 points per outing) in helping KU (28-3) to a Big 12 regular-season title and No. 1 national ranking in the final AP poll.

He is the second KU player to win NABC defensive player of the year honors, joining Jeff Withey in 2013.

Dayton coach Anthony Grant was selected as coach of the year and Dayton's Obi Toppin player of the year. Duke's Vernon Carey won freshman of the year and Iowa's Luka Garza big man of the year.

The awards were determined by a nationwide vote of NABC-member Division I head coaches.
