The Hays Eagles 17-U summer baseball team was swept by the Salina Outlaws in a season-opening doubleheader Wednesday at Larks Park.

The Junior Eagles fell 3-2 in the first game before taking a 15-0 run-rule loss in the nightcap.

In the first game, Hays led by a run after six innings but Salina plated two runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead.

The Eagles drew a pair of walks in the bottom of the seventh but the runners were stranded as the Outlaws escaped with the win.

Carson Spray had two hits and drove in both the Eagles’ runs in the first game. Hays pitcher Blake Schmidt went the distance, allowing three runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and two walks.

In Game 2, Salina led 5-0 after four innings and then exploded for 10 runs in the fifth. The run rule was forced after Hays went scoreless in the bottom of the fifth.

The Eagles were held without a hit in the second game.
