First-round leaders Alane Studley and Susan DeVoe held on to claimed the title at the 2020 Tee Fore Two Championship at Smoky Hill CC on Tuesday.

Gusty conditions prevailed throughout the championship and scoring was a challenge in the difficult Chapman Alternate Shot format today. Studley and DeVoe had a rocky back nine as the wind conditions worsened.

Susan Mueller and Jordan Boone of Wichita were making a push deep into the back nine firing the best round of the day with an 80. They closed the gap with a par on the 13th hole, which was the most difficult hole of the tournament. Studley and DeVoe struggled there carding a 9 but recovered for a strong final stretch to edge Mueller and Boone by two shots.

In the Net Division, Smoky Hill CC members Lien Quan and Valerie Wente claimed the title by three strokes over fellow Smoky Hill CC members Christy Kleweno and Jil Tillman. Quan and Wente were new to the event and to the Chapman Alternate Shot format, but they made up some ground playing the more difficult back nine early before the winds really picked up. After the tournament they said their first goal as a team was to have fun, and the second was to not finish last. Going home with trophies for the Overall Net title was a big bonus.

The next women’s championship is the Kansas Women’s Amateur Championship at Sand Creek Station in Newton, Kansas on July 13-14.
