The Hays High girls golf team captured its second tournament title of the season on Thursday, winning the Dodge City Invitational on Mariah Hills Golf Course.


The Indians took first place as a team by 27 strokes over second-place Maize.


Junior Taleia McCrae continued her outstanding start to the season, tying for first place individually. McCrae and Maize’s Lexie Ridder each shot 84s.


HHS sophomore Katie Dinkel was fourth with an 87, while senior Sophia Garrison took seventh with an 89 and senior Sierra Smith was 11th with a 94.


Hays High cross country earns 27 medals in Hesston


The Hays High girls and boys cross country teams both took third place in the Hesston Invitational on Thursday.


The Indians had 27 runners earn medals.


"Once again very pleased with our athletes," HHS coach Jerold Harris said. "We ran 1000’s on Labor Day, in the cold rain on Tuesday, and battled tough today."


Claire Shippy placed fourth in the girls senior division with a 21:43. Landri Dotts was ninth in the junior division with a 21:52.


Leo Hernandez won the boys freshman division in 18:07, while Elijah McCullough (18:12) was third, Ty Dempsey (18:29) was fourth and Lane DeWald (19:00) was seventh.


In the girls’ sophomore division, Jaycine Watson (21:36) was fourth, Michaela Dickman (21:50) was sixth, Nayeli Cisneros (22:20) was seventh and Avery Winter (22:21) was eighth.


In the girls freshman division, Brenlynn Albers led the way with a fifth-place finish in 21:06. Mika Zimmerman (21:07) was sixth, while Arely Maldonado (21:26) was seventh and Brynn Kinderknecht was eighth (21:30).


Matthew Dempsey was eighth in the boys’ junior division with a 17:50.


Hays High volleyball goes 2-1 in Dodge City Invitational


The Hays High volleyball team posted a 2-1 record in the Dodge City Invitational on Thursday.


The Indians beat Lakin 27-25, 25-23, beat Sublette 25-16, 25-11, and lost in three sets to Dodge City 25-22, 18-25 and 17-25.


Hays High is 6-4 on the season.


Monarch volleyball tops Beloit


The Thomas More Prep-Marian volleyball team won a road match at Beloit in four sets on Thursday.


The Monarchs, ranked No. 5 in Class 3A, beat Beloit 24-26, 25-20, 25-12, 25-14 to move to 11-2 on the season.


The Monarchs will play in a triangular with Trego and and Stockton on Tuesday in WaKeeney.
