The Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism on Sunday posted on its Facebook page this trail camera photo showing an adult mountain lion carrying a recently killed porcupine. The photo was taken in Kiowa County, where Greensburg is the county seat.

An adult mountain lion carrying a recently killed porcupine is shown on a trail camera photo taken in southwest Kansas’ Kiowa County, which was posted early Sunday evening on the Facebook site of the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism.

“This is cool!” that post said.

There have been 21 confirmed mountain lion sightings in Kansas since 2007, and all appeared to be young adult cats on the move, KDWPT said on Facebook.

It indicated the shooting of the photo made public Sunday came two and a half months after confirmed sightings of what was thought to be the same mountain lion were reported 20 miles apart in the same area.

“This is the first time multiple photos of a cat have been confirmed in the same area within a time frame that could indicate the presence of a resident lion,” the KDWPT Facebook post said. “However, it’s too early to tell because it could be a different lion coincidentally in the same area.”
