Monarchs split at Hoisington

The Thomas More Prep-Marian Monarchs summer baseball team split a doubleheader at Hoisington on Thursday.

The Monarchs earned a 3-0 extra-inning win in the first game before dropping a 3-0 decision in Game 2.

Mark Rack went all eight innings on the mound in the first game to earn the shutout win, giving up just five hits while striking out seven.

After seven innings of scoreless baseball, the Monarchs plated three runs in the top of the eighth. Noah Gibson scored on a passed ball, Zeke Haag had an RBI groundout and Nick Helget delivered an RBI single.

Helget had three hits in the game while Mason Robbins had two.

In the second game, Rack’s RBI single gave the Monarchs the lead in the top of the seventh, but Hoisington scored two runs in the bottom half to win.

The Monarchs are 14-9 on the season.
