Monarchs sweep Russell
The Thomas More Prep-Marian Monarchs summer baseball team swept a road doubleheader at Russell to close out their schedule.
In the first game, the Monarchs trailed 4-1 after five innings. TMP tied it up in the sixth after Jace Wentling’s two-run double and Noah Gibson’s RBI groundout.
The Monarchs then took control in the seventh inning, scoring five. Bryce Connor put the Monarchs in front with a two-run single.
Mason Robbins went the distance on the mound, allowing four runs (one earned). He gave up eight hits but did not surrender a walk and struck out seven.
The Monarchs trailed by a run heading into the seventh of the second game before scoring five runs in the frame.
Wentling tied it up with an RBI single in the seventh and the Monarchs grabbed the lead on Ethan Atherton’s single.
Mark Rack went all seven innings on the mound, allowing two runs on six hits with one walk while striking out four.
The Monarchs finished the season with a 20-9 record.
