Tiger women fly past Jets in second half

WICHITA — The Fort Hays State women’s basketball team used a blistering third quarter to notch a 68-48 win at Newman and move to 2-0 on the season.

Fort Hays trailed by a point before unleashing a 36-9 run in the second half.

The Tigers went 10 of 15 from the field in the third quarter, knocking down 6 of 8 3-pointers as they outscored the Jets 31-11 in the frame.

After going 4 of 19 from 3 in the first half, FHSU finished 11 of 30 from the arc, with Sydney Golladay, Jaden Hobbs and Whitney Randall hitting three treys apiece while Madison Mittie had two.

Randall led four Tigers in double figures with 15. Hobbs added 12 while Golladay, a freshman, added 11, and Cydney Bergmann finished with 10. Mittie chipped in seven points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

The Tigers outrebounded Newman 38-32 while forcing the Jets into 19 turnovers.

Fort Hays will play at Central Oklahoma at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
